Self-Guided Wildlife Trail
Our Self-Guided Wildlife Trail program gives schools a flexible, curriculum-linked way to explore Gumbuya World's Wildlife Trail and meet over 70 animal species independently – no zookeeper guidance needed.
Students take the lead, and the animals do the teaching!
Using our purpose-built student booklets, classes free-roam the trail at their own pace, stopping at key animal habitats to work through guided conversation prompts and hands-on mini activities, all mapped to the Victorian Curriculum. You can add-on animal feed to your booking for each student, and stop by our Animal Farm, Wallaby Enclosure and Roo Haven to get up-close and hand feed our animals.
Book your visit, download your year-level booklet, print and distribute to students, then head out on the Trail. Students work through their booklet as they explore – conversations and activities happen naturally at each animal habitat along the way.
Each booklet contains conversational prompts at our animal habitats to spark discussion, and mini activities for students to complete on the Trail, including observation tasks, recording, drawing, and prediction challenges.
The self-guided trail is fully flexible, and students roam with you at their own pace. Most classes spend 60–90 minutes on the Trail. Following this, students are welcome to enjoy our two live shows, the Aussie Outback Experience and Free-Flight Bird Show.
Every prompt and activity in our booklets have been designed with the Victorian Curriculum in mind. Whether your class is exploring life cycles, food chains, or adaptations, students are building genuine science understanding as they walk, observe, and record – with over 70 incredible species to meet along the way.
